Race 1 Got to believe what you see and obviously Irish Lights is very smart. Avenue was ok whilst Luce Del Mare was a very good run.
Race 2 Big win by Carrara carrying the 59; takes a position and is on fire. Aloha also worth following. Was a big big run. Wouldn’t completely pot Shamoline Warrior yet. Wants more ground.
Race 3 Watched the replay of this and Light Vision was good. Might not be quite going as well as last year but is getting there.
Race 4 Famous Roman good. Dr Doutes needed the run. May need 1 more ??
Race 5 Cats Whisker is flying. She is better than these. Romneya much improved and Dane Julia also good.
Race 6 Black Caviar. Doesn’t she have a high cruising speed !!!
Race 7 Vigor has rocketed to Caulfield cup favourite after Saturday’s run as is in light. Obviously loves Flemington. Good win. She did have cover despite racing wide. Typhoon Tracy also good again. Can follow with confidence. Heart of Dreams was also ok and does get better with racing. Red ruler was also good late. Predatory Pricer the obvious disappointment. Maybe didn’t like racing inside horses ??
Race 8 Gai’s Swift Alliance is a winner. Stick with him. Was money for Raheeb first up and he ran well. Chasm ran well but not a Group 1 horse. Gold Salute isn’t he going ace.
Race 9 Speed Gifted took a position and was too good. Comfortable win. Is likely onwards to the Metropolitan. Hissing sid worth following. Just needs a gate but very good run and Young Centaur on track for the Cups.

Bumper program at Headquarters Saturday with Makybe Diva Stakes the feature race.
Race 1 Let the 2 year olds run around without your cash.
Race 2 Hard to see anything other than Carrara or Shamoline Warrior winning this. Carrara won very convincingly last start and may have come on. Shamoline Warrior got home very well last start and is trained by the magic man KAV. Nicastro the value for tricks.
Race 3 Can’t get enthused. Nothing stands out on form.
Race 4 Trap race. Dr Doutes clearly on top but want a market lead as not necessarily a fresh horse. Millbank goes in. Not sure Trustus is genuine and Jungle Ruler not a Flemington horse.
Race 5 Cats Whisker must be top pick. Backed like the Mob was on it last start. Can continue and certain to do so if MOB is on her again. Throw in Fifth Avenue Lady; Tootsie; Dane Julia and even Maunatrice. Romneya has the class and goes in even though ordinary last week.
Race 6 Black Caviar is all the rage and has looked super at all starts so far. Manhattan rain reportedly trialled just fair but is a Waterhouse darling. Not sure Rostova Maybe !!! Trialled well again. I reckon Corsaire goes in as genuine and Grand Harmony that man again KAV !!!
Race 7 Typhoon Tracy stays on top although I have a slight query 1600. Is a winner however.. Predatory Pricer the other must. Heart of Dreams was just off them last start and improves with racing. I have her behind the other 2 however but wouldn’t shock. Vigor has a great record at Flemington. Some hope. Big watches Cest La Guerre and Red Ruler for the Cups.
Race 8 Not easy. Gai’s Swift Alliance goes in. Champagne Harmony also a must. Chasm and Kroner consistent.
Midnight Mustang include. Gold Salute is flying and Arinos is underrated.
Race 9 Obvious here is Speed Gifted who has firmed markedly for the Cups. Hissing Sid don’t leave out and Acosta best at odds. Big query the toppy Unsung Heroine.
All in all a good quality but tough punting meeting at Headquarters. For my best bet I am going to the last in Sydney where punter’s pal Albert the Fat can get the chocolates and make our afternoon as wonderful as the cartoon.

Race 1 Salinas best horse won; Found the line and is a winner
Race 2 Tonic terrible; Sparkling Satine may have come on this preparation; Obrien so watch; Marchelle Belle and Partiva worth following.
Race 3 Annesong was too short but still ran quite well. Dont dismiss next start where better price will be on offer.
Race 4 Tickets was fair but the likely improver; Starspangled banner will he get further ?? Only time will tell. My inclination is won’t get the mile !!!
Race 5 Blanket finish. Wouldn’t write off Miss Maren. Was still ok unless you took silly price about her.
Race 6 Mic Mac 6 from 7 now so very smart; Who be Got You was extremely good again. Efficient and Viewed both good. Zarita best run for a while. El Segundo was ok. Von Costa laughable.
Race 7 First Command the main horse to follow from the meet. Was reportedly underdone before the race and still won. Here De angels was good; Now with Kav ; Must be noted however he is purely a fresh horse. Huxxsen got home very well and likely to get over more ground.
Race 8 Follow Shocking. Was a very very good run. Is my Cups horse.

In the main just follow the winners from Saturday as they were superior to their rivals in most races by a long way.
Race 1 Black Caviar is the boom horse of the moment. Is very good. Doubt you will be able to get a price on him in any race he contests.
Races 2 & 3 Coronation Diva and Pass me By whilst both are limited are proven winners. Continue to follow in lesser grade.
Race 4 Carrara did it in a canter. Has obviously come back very well.
Race 5 Belleza Veloz won well and should win another race this Spring. Estee also good and is looking for further.
Race 6 Bonindi turning into a bit of a costly bridesmaid. Stay away.
Race 7 Secret Flyer was a huge win. Came from second last around the turn at the Valley to win. Will be even better suited at other tracks.
Race 8 Eagle Falls again better than these.

No they haven’t disappeared and some good horses still go around at the Valley this Saturday.
Black Caviar should romp in Race 1 but will be extremely short. He is a likely Group 1 star. 1.60 would be a luxury price !!!. There was a sprinkling of excitement about Noesis last start before he went on a rodeo show. Keep safe.
Race 2 Not keen although note Coronation Diva has won 4 of its last 5. Must be a chance in this. Heartland won well also last start.
Race 3 Walking machines. LEAVE
Race 4 Will make Carrara the bet of the day. Is pretty smart. Should win.
Race 5 I have always had an opinion on Maunatrice. Watch market ??
Race 6 Hissing Sid is the best horse in the race but has drawn the carpark so probably a no bet race again.
Race 7 Secret Flyer is a bit of a star. Was favourite for the Newmarket. Must include. Morgan Dollar always runs a big race fresh and Wilander is consistent.
Race 8 Even lot. Let them run around without your cash on.

Race 1 Pacino was able to walk faster than the other walking machines. Is going well but don’t get too excited.
Race 2 Tonic started at prohibitive odds and ran well unless you backed him. Couldn’t get the split at the right time. Money for him and the fact he races handy means he will be worth following at the right price in races to come.
Race 3 Shamoline Warrior got too far back but ran home well. Is looking for more distance; KAV trains and is his likely Caulfield Guineas horse. FOLLOW !!!
Race 4 Headway ran very well. Again got back in a slowly run race. Should prove a very handy horse in just below top grade this Spring. Corsaire races handy and puts himself into the right spot to win races.
Race 5 Vigor the horse to follow. Ran very well over unsuitable short trip. Von Costa de Hero was just about the run of the day if you can excuse that he is a noted money muncher. Raffaello pure KAV magic and a little more; came from last so do not underestimate this Spring.
Race 6 The Liston will prove a huge Spring form race. Who Be Got You just be on all Spring. Was supposedly underdone leading into the race (although note he did firm in betting) and ran a bottler. Should have won the Doncaster last year. Predatory Pricer obviously. I hope he aims for the Caulfield Cup and not just the Cox Plate. Typhoon Tracy was very good and is the best female going around currently. Heart of Dreams ran well. Gallica and Zarita ran ok for future mares events.
Race 7 Very even. These will take turns winning every week. Note Romneya was poor with weight despite having every chance.
Race 8 Just follow the winner Miss Maren. Is better than these and a black type mare. Really wasn’t in a good position 200 out but her class got her home.

Spring is back ???
The good horses are returning and as anyone in racing knows the beginning of pony season is amongst us with the Liston Stakes to be run on Saturday. The Liston is where the best bet is at also. Typhoon Tracy looks the goods and lets hope she can make it 6 from 6 this Saturday. Others to watch closely are Heart of Dreams (not noted first up); Who Be Got You and Predatory Pricer (who should have won the AJC Derby) in a cracking field to get the Spring rolling. I aint too keen on the remainder of the program as a firm betting proposition but watch for the following.
Race 1 A race of non winners with Red Buttons perhaps hardest to beat (each way)
Race 2 Running Riot was a very good run last start and top pick although am a little concerned with the pesky apprentice on board.
Race 3 Big Watch on Kav youngster Shamoline Warrior
Race 4 Rostova trialled well and I expect her to be hard to beat here. Is probably the second best for the day given she goes best when fresh and around the Melbourne way. Headway has some class and Noesis is the big watch in the race as has shown very strong ability.
Race 5 I can’t back Von Costa De Hero until he wins again. This is a weak race however. Throw in Maxisun and Commanding Hope.
Race 7 Belsenica looks a good roughie; Romneya obviously the class and include Moondancing.
Race 8 Interest here in Tubular Bells who has a very good record. Miss Maren and Monsieur Feraud must be included.
In summary probably best to back Typhoon Tracy straight out and watch the remainder of the program for future betting propositions.

There is a sniff of Spring in the air with 2007 Cox Plate winner El Segundo back in the Aurie’s Star at Flemington Saturday.
Is a big ask however first up after a long layoff although it must be noted the champ has a great record fresh. Suspect the best bet is in this race with Mic Mac looking a potential topliner. Am very keen on the exacta with Gran Sasso. Whilst Grand Duels tries hard and goes well down the straight.
The other races don’t look great betting propositions to me with iffy form and many horses returning from a spell.

Ashes Third Test Final Day Edgbaston

with 10,015 comments

Michael Clarke aka PUP 103 not out and Marcus North 96 have saved the day and the Aussies are back in with a chance of reclaiming the Ashes after escaping with a draw at Edgbaston.
Australia still looked vulnerable at lunch after losing Hussey 64 and Watson 53 before lunch but some strong batting against some weak Pommy bowling (especially Swann) has seen the Aussies survive at Edgbaston and head to Headingley 1-0 down with 2 tests to play.
They must consider themselves a real chance at Leeds given England’s 2 best players Pieterson and Flintoff are both unlikely to play.
The aussies are likely to make changes to their bowling line up with Stuart Clark a certainty and Lee to be considered for the this vital match in the best of 5 series. Hilfenhaus is a certain starter; Mitchell Johnson is a likely starter meaning both Siddle and Hauritz are in the gun when it comes to the selector’s decision on who will play.
The batting lineup is likely to remain unchanged as they are all doing enough to retain their places.

Ashes Third Test Day 2 Edgbaston

with 1,630 comments

What a difference a day makes in CRICKET !! Are the Aussies GONE ??? After being 1 for 126 overnight the Aussies have capitualted to be all out for 263 in the Third Test and England have progressed to 2 for 116 when bad light stopped play.
The rot set in early and while Merv and his co selectors were dining out on duck and plum sauce last night after Watson’s promising start they promptly felt a little queasy when he was out the very first ball of the day to English swing bowler Graham Onions. Mervs guts would have then been churning when Michael Hussey let the very next ball go only to watch it cannon into his stumps for a golden quakka and Onions was on a hattrick before the Aussie team had even wiped the sleep from their eyes.
Hussey must be right on his last chance given his judgement and eyesight are starting to desert him at Test level. Mr Cricket may be no more ??
Ponting and Michael Clarke then looked relatively comfortable until Punter top edged to the keeper and exposed the middle order which used to be the strength of the Australian side. Now it was Jimmy Anderson’s turn to take the stage. He and Onions were hooping the ball everywhere and no one even knew where the lollies were to cause the ball to move so sharply.
The Aussies collapsed; Clarke was out a little dubiously LBW; Johnson came in and continued the recent Aussie tradition of letting balls go on the stumps and became golden quakka 2 LBW; Manou copped a beauty from Anderson and was bowled everywhere; North nicked behind and looks ordinary given he lacks the capacity to score quickly.
The only 2 to score runs towards the end of the innings were Hilfenhaus and Hauritz.
Now it was time for the POMS to bat. A wicket in Siddle’s first over was a promising start with Cook nicking a ball behind for a duck. However Strauss settled in and he looked particularly untroubled by the Aussie attack and was 66 not out at stumps. Bopara played on to Hilfenhaus after tea but the controversy in the final session was when Bell was given not out lbw to the struggling Mitchell Johnson when absolutely plum in front to the extent the ball would have hit halfway up middle. Again the umpire was South African Rudi Koertzen. How men of 60 odd with cataracts and dementia are allowed to umpire at this level is beyond me. It must also be noted that having a Jaapie umpire an Aussie test match is a little like having the Klu Klux Clan as judge and jury at the trial of a black man.
The state of the Ashes is in jeopardy. I believe the only man who can save us is Mitchell Johnson if he finds form and he needs to do so in the first session on day 3 or the URN is GONE !!!
